Forum How do I...?

Chinese Fonts on Linux

hamzakc
Hi,

I am trying to use Prince for a Bilingual Chinese-English website.

I have managed to get everything working, apart from interpreting Chinese fonts correctly when it is italic. Bold seems to work fine.

I am using Linux (CentOS4) and I have installed the ttfonts-zh_CN font rpm and set that font family in the css. Before that I was just getting question marks.

Do you know how I can get Italic Chinese characters working on Linux ?
(All the content is in utf8)

Thanks.

I don't think there are any italic Chinese fonts on Linux, and currently Prince won't artificially slant fonts that don't have an italic variant.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

So what are the alternatives that I have under Linux , apart from removing all italics from the document :)

Thanks.

You could use a different means of emphasis, for example switching to a different font style. Or perhaps you can find an italic Chinese font somewhere, and use that, it's entirely up to you. :)
