Is it possible to restrict the line-height/vertical-align of MathML elements?

We have inline MathML that changes the line-height of corresponding lines, as shown in the example. This of cause does not look nice.

Are you able to put each MathML element in another element with "display: inline-block" and put heights on those elements instead?

yes, I am able to.

I had not thought about wrapping it up in a container element.
