We came across this paragraph (HTML attached; let me know and I can email you the font), which flows differently if there are unstyled inline elements present. The inline elements were originally added (automatically) to prevent words adjacent to em-dashes from hyphenating.
As far as I can tell, the presence of inline elements shouldn't affect line breaking:
