Is there much of a difference in performance/resources required when generating a PDF through an HTTP request vs giving Prince the HTML output directly?

What would be the preferred method?

The performance and memory usage will be very similar, but it will take time to perform the HTTP request, depending on the speed of the remote server and your network connection.
