If the PDF specs allow for it, I suggest that Prince add the following property

prince-bookmark-state: open | closed

and a configuration property that opens (or leaves closed) the bookmark panel.

This way, I have much more control over how the bookmark tree will look and whether to show or hide the bookmark panel when the document is opened.
