Is it possible to modify generated content such as string() or content()?

I'm finding myself wanting to use an element's content in a PDF bookmark, for instance, but replacing <br/> with ": ". I've resorted to adding a title attribute to the element and using this attribute instead, but it seems like duplicating content.

Not yet. Perhaps some way of applying prince-text-replace like a value would work for this.
